A new strategic initiative program that aims to capture the freshest and most cutting-edge culturally diverse work occurring in Australia. The intent is to actively identify work that is tour-ready and has significant momentum in terms of and audience engagement and critical discourse. The work is identified by Kultour and NORPA, with the assistance of a think tank consisting of representatives from KultourĂs national network and additional industry experts.
The program consists of a select tour which is then complemented by a program that allows for the professional and creative development of artists of diverse cultural backgrounds and/or one that operates as a platform for critical discussion on the presentation and experience of culturally diverse work. The most appropriate presentation platform and link is identified by Kultour in collaboration with NORPA.
Selected projects for 2010-11
En Trance - Yumi Umiumare From her many performances of The Burlesque Hour around the globe to her infamous Butoh Cabaret DasShoku Hora!!, Yumi Umiumare's electrifying performance style is in demand the world over. In this bold new work, Umiumare is set to detonate her extraordinary vision from the international to the other-worldy as she thrusts us into the twisted corridors of the un-living. At times brutally visceral, the performance is counterbalanced with the purity of digital painting produced live with her collaborating artists, Bambang Nurcahyadi and Naomi Ota. After a highly successful sell out premiere season at the Malthouse Theatre, Melbourne in 2009, En Trance has already been confirmed to tour to NORPA and Brisbane Powerhouse (in partnership with BEMAC) in October 2010. The tour will coincide with professional development/creative labs for artists of diverse backgrounds. This Kapture program is being developed in partnership with Multicultural Arts Victoria.
