Milica Ilic & Desert Child
Milica Ilic & Desert Child
Milica Ilic (pronounced Mel-itza Ill-ych) is one of Australia’s hottest musical talents. At the age of 24, she has already toured Australia, Southeast Asia and the UK with such legendary artists as José Carreras and Tommy Emmanuel. Her debut CD ‘Rouge Guitar’ has confirmed her place as an artistic tour de force, with Australian critics hailing Milica as ‘a fiery combination of virtuosic skill and originality’. Most recently, Milica was honoured as ‘West Australian Citizen of the Year 2004’.

In 2006 sounds of Milica's stunning debut album Rouge Guitar were aired on UK's Classic FM for the first time and Australia's ABC National Radio broadcasted a full hour's concert and interview with Milica. Her works have received regular airplay since.

Touring with kultour, Milica teams up with instrumental guitar duo Desert Child to present a new edge to the classical guitar format. Desert Child originate from the remote pearling town of Broome in Western Australia. The band comprises the talents of Guy Ghouse and Damian Watkiss. Hailed as one of Australia's premier musical acts, Desert Child are an artistic, intense and inventive live act. Guy and Damian are both gems of musical talent and present their music with warm easy-going grooves that blend classical, Latin, rock, folk and jazz rhythms on their acoustic guitars.

‘Tonight, her interpretation of Rodrigo’s Cadenza from the Concierto de Aranjuez is short and fiery in the most abrupt sense, but it leaves you wanting to hear the whole thing. With musical attack, the depth of emotion that she hides behind her long wavy hair and the European lilt in her voice. Milica has all the advantages of youth on her side and it is certainly the energy of one so young that comes across in her performance.’

‘Later we were treated to a spellbinding classical recital from Tommy’s (Emmanuel) fellow Australian, Milica Ilic, who uses percussive acoustic techniques combined with a classical repertoire for a great close to the day. The 23-year old is intent on presenting classical playing in an exciting, accessible way.’

‘Milica even had her own bodyguard for the show, a sure sign that the once shy child prodigy is now a certified star in her own right. It’s not just her musical talent, which is immense – it’s everything about her. She breezes into a room and lights it up. She’s classically beautiful, elegant and poised – yet utterly charming and full of youthful exuberance. Like Delta (Goodrem), she appears to have been conceived with the entire package, destined for stardom from the day she was born’.
